Punahou School - Alexander Field
Punahou School, located in Honolulu, Hawaii is the largest private school in the United States, with over 3,600 students in grades K-12. In 2008 and 2009, Punahou’s sports program was ranked best in the country by Sports Illustrated Magazine. With a perennial outstanding athletic program, D.A. Hogan & Associates was retained to convert the historic Alexander Field to a vertically drained synthetic turf field for a variety of sports and physical education programs.
The field aggregate base was designed to retain storm events and eliminated the need for a downstream detention facility. The field was constructed utilizing the first porous asphalt base and elastic layer pad system in the State. Other improvements included a reconfiguration of all field events including shot put, discus, long jump and triple jump venues.
