Gig Harbor High School

D.A. Hogan served as the prime consultants for conversion of an existing natural grass field into a multi-purpose field to be used for High School competition in softball and soccer, as well as a practice and training field for football and baseball. Developed by Pierce County Parks Department on this Peninsula School District site, the field will have a significant public recreation use at night and on weekends when not in use for high school activities. Additional uses include full size adult and youth soccer; youth modified soccer, softball, T-ball and baseball.

The project included removal of an existing natural grass field and installation of approximately 190,000 square feet of infilled synthetic turf. A subsurface drainage system, permeable aggregate base and porous asphalt surface was selected for long-term durability and ease of future replacement. An extensive variance and City code development process were required, leading to the installation of the only sports field lighting system within the City of Gig Harbor. Pedestrian pathways, spectator and handicap accessible improvements were also developed to the adjacent high school, elementary school and community developed play structure.
