Overlake School
D.A. Hogan was the civil engineer and field consultant for design and construction of the new soccer/lacrosse field at the Overlake School in Redmond, WA. This field is one phase of a master plan of sports fields developed for the campus to accommodate its large contingent of soccer and lacrosse players. Our role also included organizing and directing the selection of the synthetic turf products through education about the different products and site visits to review completed installations.
The site is adjacent to the Bear Creek drainage basin resulting in special water quality considerations. A rubber and sand infilled turf was placed on an expanded-depth permeable aggregate gravel base. This additional depth provides below field storm water detention capacity within the gravel and serves as a groundwater recharge system. The subsurface drainage system collector pipe was sized and sloped to control the peak discharge rate from the field eliminating the need for a conventional storm water detention system.
