Shoreline Center
The sand-silt soccer fields at Shoreline Center have been upgraded to an infilled synthetic turf surface. Soccer players throughout the City of Shoreline are pleased with the enhanced playability and the elimination of the dust clouds that were a common occurrence with the old surface. D.A. Hogan & Associates completed the design and provided the construction administration services for the project.
An investigation was completed on the existing subsurface drainage system and to identify the existing subgrade depths. The design work included detailed surface elevation and field slope modeling to minimize soil export while protecting the existing subsurface drainage system. The field slopes were reduced from over 1.5% to 0.5% with perimeter slope transitions to allow for matching the existing perimeter concrete walkways.
The construction of the project was performed with two separate contracts. The first phase included the base construction and the second phase included the synthetic turf surfacing. This provided cost savings and allowed the City to have greater flexibility with product selection.
The existing dust control system was maintained to allow for surface temperature reduction in the summer months with sprinklered irrigation.
