PGE Park, Portland Beavers

D.A. Hogan & Associates was the field consultant and owner’s representative for the field installed at the renovated PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. This included the field reconstruction in 2001 and the replacement of the synthetic turf system in 2008. The stadium is the home field for the Portland Beavers AAA Baseball, Portland State University Football, A League professional soccer, numerous high school football games, and concerts and other special events. The field includes both in-filled synthetic turf and rubberized warning track surfaces.

The busy event schedule for the stadium requires a field design that allows for rapid field conversions from sport to sport. Infield clay areas, the pitcher’s mound, and portions of the warning track areas are converted to turf for football and soccer activities. The conversion for football also includes a removable turf panel for the center logo. The field markings are applied with removable paint to allow for quick conversion football, soccer, and baseball uses.

The field was constructed on a porous asphalt and aggregate base to allow for a flat field configuration and to provide adequate support for concert staging and other special events. The field includes subsurface drainage and washwater irrigation systems.
