Providence Park, Portland Timbers
D.A. Hogan & Associates, Inc. was retained by Peregrine Sports LLC and AECOM/Ellerbe Beckett to provide planning, design & specifications, and construction observation as historic Providence Park (formerly Jeld-Wen Field and PGE Park) in downtown Portland, OR was converted from a multi-purpose baseball, football, and soccer stadium to a Soccer-specific venue. The renovations, spurred by the acquisition of the expansion Major League Soccer Portland Timbers, occurred in phases as various prior tenants, including the Triple-A Portland Beavers Baseball and Portland State University Vikings Football teams, concluded their respective seasons through 2009 and late 2010. Over a very short construction schedule, the conversion was complete for the Timbers’ inaugural game in March 2011.
The Timbers selected a 2.5” monofilament synthetic turf, infilled with sand and rubber, installed over a new 1" elastic layer supplemental pad on existing porous asphalt. This surface maintains a FIFA “Quality Concept for Football Turf – 2-Star” certification.
